Terms of use
for the Hijaza app · Last updated: 24 October 2026 · The German version is legally binding.
1. Provider and scope
(1) The provider of the “Hijaza” app is Ahmad Sobair Schokory, Große Seestr. 10, 60486 Frankfurt am Main, Germany, email: schokorygroup@gmail.com (“we”).
(2) These terms apply to the use of the app on Android and iOS. Purchases in the app are additionally subject to the terms of Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). For the iOS version, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; in case of conflict, these terms prevail to the extent Apple permits.
2. What the app is – and what it is not
(1) Hijaza is a companion for Umrah and for historic places in Makkah and Madinah. The app offers information and tools, including a step-by-step guide, counters, duas, prayer times with notifications, a Qibla display, a tasbih counter, a meeting point, a group feature, a checklist, emergency information, a Miqat companion for flights, historic places and tours, and a read-aloud function.
(2) The religious content is carefully researched and backed by sources. It does not replace the advice of a scholar. Where scholars hold different views, the app usually says so. The app does not issue legal rulings (fatwa).
(3) The app is a tool. Users remain responsible for their own religious practice – in particular for entering Ihram in time.
(4) Languages: The content is written in German and rendered into English and Arabic. The other languages were translated with the help of artificial intelligence and checked by a second AI; review by native speakers is still partly pending. Translations may therefore contain errors. The German text is authoritative.
3. Notes on individual features
(1) Prayer times are calculated on the device using the Umm al-Qura method. In the Sacred Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the start of prayer (iqamah) follows each mosque’s schedule. Prayer notifications may be delayed or suppressed by device settings.
(2) Qibla and meeting point depend on the compass, GPS and device. Metal, magnets, buildings and weak reception can distort the display. The app shows the estimated accuracy and warns about interference; we cannot guarantee an error-free display.
(3) Miqat companion. Reminders are calculated from the departure airport, the planned departure time and – where available – GPS. They are deliberately early (earliest possible overflight). The app cannot remind you if the device is switched off or out of battery, notifications are muted or declined, or the operating system delays or suppresses notifications. Users should put on Ihram clothing before departure, make the intention at the latest at the first reminder and also pay attention to announcements by the crew and group leaders. This is explicitly confirmed in the app before first use.
(4) Emergency information. The emergency numbers shown were checked with the mobile operators stc and Zain as of the date stated. They may change. In an emergency, the instructions of local authorities and security forces apply. Your own emergency contacts are stored only on the device; users are responsible for their accuracy.
(5) Group. Anyone who creates or joins a group shares their self-chosen display name and Umrah progress with everyone who knows the group code, and on request a group meeting point. Only give the code to people you trust. Group names, display names and notes must not contain offensive or unlawful content or other people’s personal data. Groups are deleted automatically 14 days after creation. Other members’ progress may be shown with a delay; it does not replace arrangements on site.
(6) Historic places and tours. Location, access and opening hours may change; some places can only be seen from outside or are not accessible. Where the exact location is not certain, the app says so. Please follow the rules and signs on site.
(7) Read aloud. The read-aloud function uses the device’s speech output or pre-recorded audio. Pronunciation and emphasis may differ from the spoken original; the written text is authoritative. Quran verses are not recited by machine.
4. Free use and Premium
(1) The basic features are free, including the Umrah guide, counters, prayer times, Qibla, tasbih, meeting point, emergency information, checklist and Miqat companion, as well as one tour each in Makkah and Madinah. For all other places, the introduction is free.
(2) “Hijaza Premium” is a one-time purchase without a subscription. Among other things, it unlocks all other tours and chapters of the places, read-aloud, all certificate designs, PDF export and creating groups. The app shows the current scope before purchase.
(3) Conclusion of the contract, payment, withdrawal and refunds are governed by the terms of the respective store. Purchases can be transferred to other devices with the same store account via “Restore purchases”.
(4) There is no entitlement to particular free features or to their continued existence unchanged. We may add, correct or remove content, for example when sources or the situation on site change; we will not remove the core of the purchased Premium scope without equivalent replacement.
5. Partner offers
In the “Offers” section, the app shows offers from partners (e.g. hotels, eSIM, transfers). These links are marked as partner links; if you book, we may receive a commission, which does not change your price. Contracts are concluded exclusively between you and the respective partner, who is responsible for its services, prices and terms. Discount codes are subject to the partner’s terms.
6. Rights to content
Texts, design and software of the app are protected by copyright. Photos are mostly from Wikimedia Commons and are licensed under the free licences stated in the app (Settings → Photo credits). You may use the content for personal purposes and share certificates or your journey as a PDF. Any further reproduction or publication of the texts requires our consent.
7. Liability
(1) We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act and to the extent of any guarantee given.
(2) In the event of a slightly negligent breach of an essential contractual obligation (an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance one may regularly rely), liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract at the time of conclusion.
(3) Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded.
(4) Insofar as the app is used free of charge, we are liable – except in the cases of paragraph 1 – only for intent and gross negligence.
(5) Paragraphs 1 to 4 also apply in favour of our vicarious agents.
8. Privacy
How we handle data is described in the privacy policy. Location, meeting points, emergency contacts, notes, photos and flight details stay on the device; the optional group feature is the exception.
9. Changes
We may change these terms with effect for the future, for example for new features or a changed legal situation. We will inform you about material changes in the app. Purchased features remain unaffected.
10. Applicable law and dispute resolution
German law applies. For consumers, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which they have their habitual residence remain unaffected. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. For questions or complaints, an email to schokorygroup@gmail.com is enough.
11. Final provision
Should any provision be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected.
